Bradford began working with World Vision in 2016 to improve health and hygiene conditions in communities around the world. Our initial efforts focused on shipping bar soap to communities recovering from natural disasters, including hurricanes and earthquakes. We have since expanded the program to include 400,000 lbs of soap base shipped annually to Somalia, Zambia, and Burundi.
Through our efforts, the women's groups in these communities reform the soap into bars. They use the soap for their families and sell the balance locally to help supplement their income. It has not only created stronger connections between the women, but there has been a noticeable decrease in disease and illness where the soap is distributed. Doctors who visit the communities now have shorter lines at the health clinics, enabling them to visit a greater number of communities. The effect of the donations has created a ripple effect that empowers women, improves income, and contributes to improved health and hygiene.
